Nonpartisan Candidate and Issue Forums

The LWVLA is committed to providing the public with fair, nonpartisan information about candidates for election. See below for links to print and other media forums made available to the public ahead of the 2024 General Election. Forums are added to this page as they become available, with the most recent forums on top.

La Crosse School Referendum Forum

On November 5, voters in the La Crosse School District will be asked to approve or reject a school building referendum question. When considering the commitment of taxpayer dollars, it’s important to understand the reasons behind the referendum and the effects of a yes or no vote. This panel program is designed to help our community understand these issues before they vote.

Panelists:
Trevor Sprague, School District of La crosse
Jill Schams, La Crosse Education Association
Steve O'Malley, Facilities Advisory Committee
Andrea Trane, Facilities Advisory Committee

The School District of La Crosse has provided a detailed web page that includes FAQs about the referendum as well as  information about district demographics, finances,  and elementary school consolidation plans.

WPR VOTER GUIDE

From the WPR website:
"This election season, WPR has been asking what issues matter most to you. Hundreds of you weighed in, and we listened: the economy, health care, education, abortion and the environment are among the topics on Wisconsinites’ minds as they head to the polls this year.
We brought those issues directly to the candidates for president, Congress and the state Legislature. Our candidate guide allows you to see how they responded to survey questions about those topics and compare their answers.
We sent the survey to all candidates and made multiple attempts to follow up with those who didn’t respond. We reviewed the responses for inappropriate language, but did not edit beyond that."

Straight Talk about the Wisconsin Election Process
with John Smalley and Meagan Wolfe
This program is a conversational review of the key elements in the Wisconsin elections process, including dialogue regarding the practices and safeguards of some of the key points in question.

Wolfe was unanimously confirmed by the Wisconsin Senate in 2019 to serve as the administrator of the nonpartisan Wisconsin Elections Commission. She served as interim administrator beginning in March 2018, during Scott Walker’s term as governor. She has conducted countless presentations on the Wisconsin electoral process, the photo ID law, and other registration rules and processes.

Smalley is the former executive editor of the Wisconsin State Journal and the La Crosse Tribune. He has more than 40 years of experience in the newspaper industry. Following his term with the Wisconsin State Journal, he provided media relations support for the Wisconsin Elections Commission.

Cosponsored by the DB Reinhart Institute for Ethics in Leadership and LeaderEthics.
