January Lunch and Learn...
come join us virtually to learn about our community celebrations

January lunch and learn
Meagan Wolfe is the administrator of the Wisconsin Elections Commission, a six-member bipartisan body (three Democrats and three Republicans) whose members are selected by the legislature and the governor.

Ms. Wolfe will be joined at our Lunch & Learn by La Crosse County Clerk, Ginny Dankmeyer. As the chief election officials for our state and county, they are charged with administering and enforcing our election laws. Ms. Wolfe and Dankmeyer will speak about what we learned from 2020 and how post-election reviews may affect the administration of our 2022 elections.

"This is a narrative that describes the urgency that compels me and millions more to push for a different American story than the one being told today. It's a story that is one part danger, one part action, and all true. It's a story about how and why we fight for our democracy and win."                                    Goodreads.com

This is very timely as Stacey Abrams has announced

Call to Action...
for your advocacy on League positions that affect our lives
Freedom to Vote Act
If you follow along with the League of Women Voters US, you probably know that they have been protesting for the Freedom to Vote Act for some time now. Along with many other key provisions, this piece of federal legislation would protect against gerrymandering, set national redistricting standards, ensure more transparency in the drawing process, and add judicial remedies so gerrymandered maps can be fixed in the courts.

From LWVUS: "The League is proud to support the Freedom to Vote Act, as it is the most significant voting rights bill in generations. This legislation will provide equal access to voting for all Americans, stop partisan gerrymandering, and limit the influence of dark money so that billionaires can’t buy elections."

Poll Workers 10-21
Poll workers are key to making sure every voter has a voice. Your community needs more. Sign up at bit.ly/pollworker22 today and help ensure that everyone’s vote in your community is counted. Local clerks will be working to fulfill their poll worker needs starting in December in order to have people ready to work as soon as the spring primary. These are paid positions, and you can be given unpaid leave from a job in order to provide this service to the community. Flexible hours are available.

Afghan Refugee Help
Afghans Playing
All three La Crosse colleges have joined with the Great Rivers United way to get school supplies donations to help Afghanistan refugees at Fort McCoy.
About 2,000 Afghans of various ages are studying at schools, which have been set up at the base between Tomah and Sparta. Around 7,500 refugees are stationed there — the second-largest population at a base in the U.S.
If you want to buy supplies, we have supplied a link below.

Thank You
As we come to the end of 2021, we are thankful for friends and neighbors, both old and new.
We find ourselves at the end of a year of Zoom with more to be thankful for than we ever thought we could. The continuation of friendships and the creation of new friendships is part of this.
We have received many donations this year; we want to thank not only those who donate with a name, but those who give anonymously.
Thank you all for helping us serve our community better.
See you next year!

Empower voters and defend democracy.
