ABOUT YWCA LA CROSSE:
In 1903, before the nation saw them as equals, Coulee Region women and men united to take action to help their most vulnerable neighbors and voted to found YWCA La Crosse, which was later officialized in 1906. For decades, YWCA La Crosse provided programs to inspire girls to grow into leaders of tomorrow, advocate for women and vulnerable populations, and empower women to work toward self-sufficiency.
Over 120 years later, YWCA La Crosse continues its mission of eliminating racism, empowering women, and promoting peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all. Its mission is accomplished through the impactful programs of our different programs: Supportive Housing, Restorative Justice, CASA For Kids, Child Center, and Mission Impact.

WI Supreme Court Debate
Broadcast March 12, 2025 at 7pm | | What does the Wisconsin Supreme Court do?
The Wisconsin Supreme Court is the state’s highest court and consists of seven justices. It is the final court of appeals on cases that began in the state court system (cases involving federal laws can be appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court). The justices on the court are responsible for determining if laws violate the Wisconsin Constitution. The justices decide which cases to review. They do not agree to hear every case brought to them. In addition, the justices establish and enforce procedural rules and codes of conduct for Wisconsin attorneys, judges, and justices.
Why does this matter?
Who sits on the bench of the Wisconsin Supreme Court makes a difference in our communities. Voters choose these justices in nonpartisan elections. Our rights are at stake as the Wisconsin Supreme Court sets binding legal precedent for interpretation of laws. Their decisions impact issues like: judicial ethics, education policy, civil rights, voting rights, economic development, environmental policy and more. As elected officials, Wisconsin Supreme Court justices are held accountable by voters.

March 31, 2025 - 6:30 to 8 PM | A gripping historical mystery inspired by the life and diary of Martha Ballard, a renowned 18th-century midwife who defied the legal system and wrote herself into American history.
Maine, 1789: When the Kennebec River freezes, entombing a man in the ice, Martha Ballard is summoned to examine the body and determine cause of death. As a midwife and healer, she is privy to much of what goes on behind closed doors in Hallowell. But when a local physician undermines her conclusion, declaring the death to be an accident, Martha is forced to investigate the shocking murder on her own. The Frozen River is a thrilling, tense, and tender story about a remarkable woman who left an unparalleled legacy yet remains nearly forgotten to this day.
