Five Reasons to Vote No on
Both Constitutional Amendments
Reason #1
These amendments would prohibit the governor from allocating federal money without joint Senate & Assembly approval.
Political gridlock already restricts the release of funds for:
--PFAS-contaminated wells
--State reading programs
--Assistance for sudden hospital closures

Reason #2
Federal dollars are our taxes coming back to WI when our communities need them.
The WI Legislature is frequently out-of-session— 300 days during the height of the COVID pandemic.
We can’t afford delays when crises and disasters strike.

Reason #3
These amendments would restrict the governor’s role in the allocation of taxpayer-provided federal dollars.
The Governor is more directly accountable to all WI voters than individual state legislators.

Reason #4
These amendments would remove the governor’s veto authority over allocation of taxpayer dollars.
They would violate separation of powers, and disrupt the principle of checks & balance among co-equal branches of government.

Reason #5
Asking voters to amend the WI Constitution —in a low-turnout election— is bad practice.
The legislative process, using regular order, is more transparent and responsive to WI voters.

September Lunch & Learn
September 11,  11:30 am - 1:00 pm
911
Program Information:
The Electoral College is in the news as candidates decide where to spend their time and resources in this election season. We know it is important but how did it start? Why is it controversial? How else could we elect our president? Will it guide us through another peaceful transfer of power?
Please join the LWVLA’s Lunch & Learn Program as Joan Schwartz guides us through the history and impact of the Electoral College.
Speaker:
Joan Schwartz is a retired attorney and Civics Education and Gender Law lecturer at UW Whitewater, and currently serves as Secretary of the Board of the LWVWI, Chair of the State Impartial Justice and Redistricting Committee, and is a member of the state Legislative Committee with a focus on redistricting, court integrity, reproductive justice and the ERA.

Registration will reserve lunch and provide a Zoom link for virtual attendance.  The public is welcome to join us for lunch or at no cost to attend the 12:00 p.m. program only. A recording of the program will be posted on our website the day after the live event.
Lunches must be reserved and paid for by the end of the day Thursday, 9/5. Pre-paid lunches are nonrefundable. If you have any difficulty with registration, please contact us at lwvlawi@gmail.com.
