In the aftermath of the 2020 presidential election, Donald Trump and many around him, including certain other elected Republican officials, intentionally breached their oath to the constitution, they ignored the rulings of dozens of courts, plotted to overturn a lawful election, and provoked a violent attack on our Capitol. Liz Cheney, one of the few Republican officials to take a stand against these efforts, witnessed the attack first-hand, and then helped lead the Congressional Select Committee investigation into how it happened. In Oath and Honor , she tells the story of this perilous moment in our history, those who helped Trump spread the stolen election lie, those whose actions preserved our constitutional framework, and the risks we still face.

LWVWI Constitutional Amendments Webinar

How would the amendment change how federal funds are allocated?
The amendment would require legislative approval via a joint resolution or legislative rule in order for the governor to allocate federal funds on behalf of the state. Currently, state law authorizes the governor to accept and allocate federal funds.
Does this help ordinary Wisconsinites when emergencies happen?
No, adding a layer of legislative gridlock before money can be allocated means ordinary Wisconsinites suffer longer before relief is available.  Only the governor is elected by all Wisconsinites, making him uniquely responsive to the state as a whole.
Could the legislature delegate its authority to the governor if it wanted to?
No, the resolution that placed this amendment on the ballot placed a second ballot question on the ballot, which would prohibit the legislature from delegating its power to appropriate money.
